Sobering Center: Alternative to Incarceration
We provide efficient and compassionate care for individuals who are publicly intoxicated due to alcohol and/or other drugs. Our center offers an alternative destination for those who would otherwise be transported to the emergency department or jail, particularly catering to people experiencing homelessness or facing unstable living situations.
At our facility, we prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment for individuals to sober up. Our services not only save valuable time for law enforcement officers, as dropping someone off at our center takes only minutes compared to the lengthy process of jailing, but also ensure that individuals receive the care and support they need during their time of intoxication.
We work closely with county behavioral health agencies to facilitate warm hand-offs for behavioral health services and provide screening and linkage to ongoing supportive services. Additionally, we partner with law enforcement, emergency personnel, and outreach teams to ensure comprehensive care and support for our members.
It's important to note that sobering care is distinct from treatment programs such as detoxification, rehabilitation, and sober living. While our goal is to reduce harms related to acute intoxication and help individuals recover from its effects, we do not provide long-term treatment or rehabilitation services. Instead, our focus is on providing immediate support and care during episodes of acute intoxication, emphasizing harm reduction and safety.
